Change: Crank Gasket

As of the upcoming bottom bracket change I also replace the crank gaskets. Reason for this is a damaged gasket on the right drive side.

This “guide” is only for disassembly of the crank and replacing the gasket on the right side. The installation of the left side as the installation of the crank arm is placed in the upcoming bb post.

These tools are needed:

  • Bike Stand
  • DH-1
  • 6mm Allen Key
  • BBT-9
  • Needle/Small Pick
  • Degreaser
  • Synthetic Oil

Official Service Manual:

Service/Spare Part:

  • 2x Shimano Ring for Crank FC-M761 / M770 / 7800 / 7900
    • Y1F316000

No warranty in ANY case of damage!

Disassembly is the same as in the following post: Bottom Bracket Service

After cleaning the gasket can be removed. This is not as easy as it looks like. I used a small pick for this. To fit the new gasket in place some synthetic oil it is very useful.

Note: The gasket is bonded with an aluminum ring. The aluminum side is faced outside the crank!

Now the new gasket is installed I can go for bottom bracket… finally!
